Members of the Department proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) yesterday, joining thousands of law enforcement officers across Illinois in support of Special Olympics Illinois.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is recognized as the largest public awareness and fundraising movement benefiting Special Olympics. Known as the “Guardians of the Flame,” law enforcement officers carry the Flame of Hope through communities across the state, helping raise awareness and funds that directly support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Our officers were honored to take part in this annual tradition, demonstrating the Department’s commitment to community engagement, inclusion, and service beyond the scope of daily law enforcement responsibilities. The event provided an opportunity for officers to connect with community members while supporting a cause that has a meaningful impact on the lives of thousands of Special Olympics athletes and their families.
Since its inception in Illinois in 1986, the Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised millions of dollars to support year-round athletic training, competitions, health programs, leadership opportunities, and inclusive initiatives offered through Special Olympics Illinois.
The Department is proud to support Special Olympics Illinois and the outstanding athletes who inspire others through their determination, perseverance, and achievements. We thank all participants, organizers, volunteers, and community members who helped make this year’s Torch Run a success.
